The HMRC Gateway is an essential tool to be able to check your tax status and keep an eye on your state pension. You can access the Gateway on the web or through the HMRC App. You'll need your UTR (Unique Tax Reference) to create an account. Once you're in, you'll have access to the following:
PAYE - for any employment - you can check your tax code for example.
Self assessment - View your self assessments and what you owe.
Child benefit
National Insurance - you can check your national insurance record (see below).
State pension - you can get a forecast of your state pension.
It's important to monitor your state pension and especially if you are self-employed or not in employment. You need 35 qualifying years to receive the full state pension. If there are gaps in your record this is something that we can help you to investigate and potentially correct. Here is some more info about state pension eligibility - link.
You can also use the app to make Self Assessment payments.
